1.       Eastern Store Division was initially raised as “Technical Stores Section” of Eastern Base Workshop in 1961 for provisioning, stocking and issue of spare parts for overhauling of Vehicles and Equipment. Subsequently it was assigned the dual role of a central procurement agency for supply of spares to Base Workshop as well as to Field workshops.

         On 18 Dec 1969, the president of India accorded sanction for re-organization of Eastern Base Workshop (EBW). The Store Section of EBW was re-designated as Store Division.

      On 31 May 1973, the President of India accorded sanction for separation of Stores Division from Eastern Base workshop and for its functioning as an independent unit. The Store Division was re-designated as Eastern Store Division, under the Tech Control of TA Dte of DGBR with Local Administration under (P) Vartak.

      On 01 Jan 1974 Stores (Spares) accounting procedure was changed over from ledgers to Kardex.  During 1980 establishment of the unit was revised. During 1983 Office was shifted into newly constructed office building. Married accommodation for Subordinate Staff for ESD was constructed in 1987.

       During the year 2008, the post of OC ESD was upgraded to Colonel and re-designated as Commander ESD. ESD inventory was uploaded on BRO website during the month of Jul 2009. 

6.      Eastern Store Division is responsible for Scaling, provisioning, stocking of all Cat ‘A’ Spares and further supplying to EBW and Field Workshops located in Eastern Region. Limited receipt and issue of Vehicle, Equipment and Plants for far flung Workshops and Projects. Besides this, ESD is maintaining inventory of BB Components of DG’s & BRDB reserve for issuing the same to NE projects during contingency.

7.      Other charter of duties of the unit are to:-
  • Lay down and periodically update scales for spare parts for field workshops and Base Workshops for Vehicles and Equipment.

  • Prepare draft indent for stocking spares   on the basis of ‘Provision Review Schedule’ for central procurement by the Directorate.

  • Progress indents/supply orders for spare parts placed by the Directorate and Commander ESD.

  • Receive, account, stock and preserve spare parts.

  • Issue spare parts to field Workshop & Base workshops.

  • Identity obsolete spare parts and execute their disposal.

       The vision of ESD is to become “An Elite Unit of Border Roads Organization with a motivated work force to cater for spare requirement of the projects by efficient inventory management employing modern techniques and leveraging the potential of information technology”.
