BORDER ROADS ORGANISATION DEDICATES BRIDGE TO PEOPLE OF SIKKIM
As a much awaited relief to the residents of Lachen in North Sikkim, 758 BRTF under Project Swastik opened 360 feet bailey suspension bridge over Teesta River to traffic in Munshithang near Chungthang town. Earlier in June 2019 a steel bridge of 180 feet span at the same location was completely damaged due to a massive cloud burst resulting in severing the lines of communication in North District of Sikkim. The connectivity was kept open by routing the traffic through restricted army land. 86 RCC of 758 BRTF commenced the construction of the massive bridge in October last year and completed the launch of this 360 feet suspension bridge in January 2020. The approach roads to the bridge have also been constructed and the bridge has been opened for traffic w.e.f 21 Mar 2020. The bridge will give impetus to tourism and will facilitate the move of logistics for the defence forces deployed in forward areas; it will certainly be a morale booster for the locals residing in the region.
